U.S. Authorizes Ukraine to Use Long-Range Missiles for Strikes Inside Russia

In a major strategic shift, the Biden administration has authorized Ukraine to use U.S.-supplied long-range missiles for strikes deep inside Russian territory, according to several U.S. officials. The decision allows the use of the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) specifically in response to the deployment of North Korean troops to the Kursk region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has long advocated for the removal of these restrictions, arguing they are necessary to target Russian logistics and airfields. Meanwhile, Russian officials have warned that such a move would constitute a significant escalation and a direct involvement of NATO in the conflict. While some Western allies have welcomed the decision as a necessary step for Ukrainian defense, other international observers express concern over the potential for further destabilization. The White House has yet to issue a formal public statement, though the move marks a pivotal change in Washington’s policy as the conflict nears its third year.
